Types of Printed Circuit Board
Printed Circuit boards (PCBs) are frequently used in almost all electronic devices all around the world these days. PCBs are available in various varieties like different types, sizes, and functions. PCBs are classified into numerous types based on their manufacturing process, design specs, and app requirements like medicals, defense, and much more, based on client needs and requirements insist the manufacturers make different types of PCB boards.
Different Types of PCB Boards
PCB boards are available in various types. Some are different due to specs, and manufacturing processes like the PCB fabrication process and PCB assembly process. Some of the major types of PCB boards are mentioned below:
- Single-Sided PCB Boards
A Single-Sided PCB is one of the most common types of PCB. It contains a single conductive copper layer overhead the substrate. All the electronic components are arranged or placed on the single side of the board while the completely etched circuit is visible on the other side. As such, boards only have one conductive layer; the conductive path cannot be overlapped and need a lot of space.
Such PCB boards are fine for low-density design needs. Such types of PCB layers are used in low-cost electronic tools like calculators, power sources, FM radios, Timing circuits, and much more.
- Double-Sided PCB Boards
One type of PCB board is PCB double-sided board. A slim layer of conductive material like copper is added on both sides of the top and bottom sides of the board. Holes at the circuit board enable the metal party to be linked from one side to the other side. These PCB boards link the circuit on both sides using one of the two mounting methods using the Whole technology or surface mount technology.
Using the through-hole technology, installing leads components into pre-drilled holes at the board that is then soldered at the pads on opposite sides. While surface mount techniques involve the exact placement of electronic components on the circuit board.
Such type of boards is used in various types of apps like cell phone, power monitoring apps, test equipment, and much more.
- Multi-layered PCB
Such types of PCBs contain more than two layers of copper. Commonly, any board contains at least three layers. Multi-layers PCBs are designed like a “Sandwich” which has several double-sided conductive layers. All the layers are bonded and linked together under high temperatures and pressure to make sure that no air gaps remains and that the final PCB fabrication process and assembly are properly stable.
Such types of PCB boards are used in complex website developer electronic devices and equipment in computers, mobile phones, medical tools, and much more like them.
- Rigid PCB Boards
As the name shows, rigid PCB is a type of PCB, which cannot be folded and twisted. The base material of such boards is a rigid substrate, which makes the board inflexible and rigid. They have multiple layers and rigid layers. These include single-sided, double-sided, and multiple-sided boards.
They are used in PCB GPS equipment, computer, CAT scans, tablets, and much more.
